About the Role

Nutanix is seeking a Software Engineer for the Core Data Path team, responsible for the Nutanix Distributed Storage Fabric (NDSF), the foundational high-performance shared-nothing distributed file system that powers our hyper-converged and hybrid cloud solutions. This role involves architecting, designing, and developing reliable, efficient, high-performance data-path software for large-scale enterprise and hybrid cloud environments.

You will work on the Stargate team, the "data-engine" of the distributed file system, handling IO requests, data placement, deduplication, compression, erasure-coding, encryption, and failure recovery. The role requires addressing strict consistency and performance requirements while adapting to emerging drive technologies.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with development, test, documentation, and product management teams to deliver high-quality products, optimizing performance and resiliency of distributed storage systems, and engaging with customers and support to resolve production issues.

Team

The Core Data Path (CDP) team was the first team created at Nutanix and is responsible for the Nutanix Distributed Storage Fabric (NDSF). The Stargate team, a subset of CDP, focuses on the data-engine of the distributed file system, managing all IO operations and ensuring enterprise-grade reliability and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in Computer Science or a related Engineering field (required).
  • 6-10 years of experience designing and developing applications.
  • Familiarity with OS internals, distributed systems, and best practices for design/implementation.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and analysis techniques.
  • Experience with distributed data management, web-scale systems, and building clustered, high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed applications or systems software.
  • Experience with file systems, operating systems, database back-ends, distributed systems, or cloud technologies.
  • Past projects involving large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Cassandra, or Zookeeper.
  • Comfort with virtualization technologies like KVM, VMware, Hyper-V, or Xen.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C++, C, or Java.
  • Hungry, humble, and collaborative attitude with a passion for working in dynamic teams.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position at the commencement of employment is between USD $147,000 and USD $294,000 per year. The total compensation package may include a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, discretionary awards, and benefits such as 401(k) eligibility and paid time off (vacation, sick time, parental leave). Actual compensation will vary based on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Schedule

This role operates in a hybrid capacity, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the office. Additional team-specific norms and expectations will be provided by your manager.
