About the role
The Ohio Department of Taxation seeks to hire a Software Development Specialist 1 to join the Information Technology Application Development Division. This role involves developing and modifying program modules using technologies such as C# .NET and SQL, writing and executing unit/system test cases, assisting in gathering requirements, documenting business process flows, and providing post-production support.
Responsibilities
- Develop and modify program modules using technologies such as C# .NET and SQL.
- Write and execute unit/system test cases; debug and revise programs to ensure desired results.
- Absorb and document business process flows; develop software solutions to business problems.
- Provide post-production support, including maintenance, enhancements, and troubleshooting.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.
- Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to exchange technical information and lead focused discussions.
- Support user acceptance testing, source control, and deployment activities.
- Promote system security by adhering to agency and state IT policies.
- Continuously learn new skills through training, seminars, and self-directed study.
Requirements
- Experience with software development tools, debugging, and version control.
- Knowledge of databases and web development.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
- 36 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging, and assisting with analysis and design, including 12 months work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
- Completion of an associate core program in computer science or information systems; 18 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging, and assisting with analysis and design, including 12 months work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
- Completion of an undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 12 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging, and assisting with analysis and design, including 12 months work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.
- Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
Preferred Qualifications
