Software Development Manager , Your Orders

About the role

At Amazon, we are known for our customer obsession. As a Software Development Manager (SDM) on this team, you will be responsible for hiring and leading a team of engineers in designing and building innovative delivery experiences for our customers. You will work with a diverse, talented, and experienced group of tech, product, and UX team members. You will innovate to design simple but scalable solutions for problems never solved before that enforce Amazon's Customer Obsession. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with business partners, senior leadership, and engineers to influence and drive product vision and lead the design of our systems.

Responsibilities

• Hire, lead, and develop a high-performing team of engineers that owns a set of services powering the post-purchase experience for Amazon across 23 countries.
• Partner with stakeholders across product, tech, and other teams within Amazon Stores to leverage our services and deliver on team/organization goals.
• Define the strategy and product/technical roadmap for your team.
• Maintain a high bar on resiliency and operational health of the systems owned by your team.
• Drive yearly and quarterly roadmap planning, making tradeoffs and judgment calls based on technical and business needs.
• Mentor and support the career development of engineers on your team.

A day in the life

• Conduct 1:1s with engineers on your team, stakeholders, and leaders.
• Participate in team rituals: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint demos, and backlog grooming.
• Monitor and improve the operational health of systems—ticket analysis, software risks.
• Develop roadmaps in collaboration with product teams and senior engineers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams.
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness.

Pay

USA, WA, Bellevue - $184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually.
