Software Development Manager, Route 53 - Global Resolver

About the role

Amazon Web Services (Route 53) is offering a Software Development Manager position in-person in Arlington, VA or Herndon, VA, USA. In this role, you will lead a team developing a Tier-1 AWS service, Route 53 Global Resolver, focusing on a globally distributed DNS resolution service. You will build and scale a secure, highly available Anycast DNS resolver enabling customers to resolve both public and private DNS queries from anywhere while maintaining strong security controls and compliance requirements.

We seek a proven and motivated engineering leader to elevate our software development team. As a leader, you will improve the service, make tough prioritization decisions, iterate and innovate, and solve distributed systems problems. You will work with your team and senior leadership to develop and launch high-quality services, manage engineers, influence strategy, define the team’s roadmap, drive system architecture, and coach team members.

Responsibilities

• Direct management of the software engineering team
• Lead the architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations for the service
• Strategic planning and execution, tracking progress and managing changing priorities
• Be customer-focused and drive the team to build and deliver solutions that improve customer experience
• Work closely with leadership and stakeholders to review business plans, progress, and outcomes
• Engage with customers to understand their requirements and pain points, driving solutions to address them
• Drive cost efficiency and operational improvements
• Collaborate with product managers to refine customer requirements
• Bring innovative ideas to improve customer objectives
• Set clear and measurable goals for the team and team members
• Mentor and promote team members

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 10+ years of working directly within engineering teams
• 5+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness

Pay

Base salary range: $184,900.00 – $250,200.00 USD annually for locations in Arlington, VA or Herndon, VA.
