Software Development Manager, Route 53 - Global Resolver

About the role

Amazon Web Services (Route 53) is offering a Software Development Manager position in-person in Arlington, VA or Herndon, VA, USA. In this role, you will lead a team working on the development of a Tier-1 AWS service, Route 53 Global Resolver, focusing on a globally distributed DNS resolution service. You will build and scale a secure, highly available Anycast DNS resolver that enables customers to resolve both public and private DNS queries from anywhere while maintaining strong security controls and compliance requirements.

We are looking for a proven and motivated engineering leader to take our services software development team to the next level. As a leader, you will significantly improve the service, make tough prioritization decisions, iterate and innovate, and think through distributed systems problems. You will work with your team and senior leadership to develop and launch high-quality services, manage and lead a team of engineers to influence overall strategy, and define the team’s roadmap. You will also drive system architecture, spearhead best practices, and coach and develop team members.

Responsibilities

• Direct management of the software engineering team
• Lead the architecture and design, development, deployment, and operations for the service
• Strategic planning and execution, effectively tracking progress and managing changing priorities
• Be customer-focused and drive the team to build and deliver solutions that improve customer experience
• Work closely with leadership and stakeholders to review business plans, progress, and outcomes
• Engage with customers to understand their requirements and pain points, and drive solutions to address them
• Be cost-conscious and drive efficiency improvements
• Work with product managers to refine customer requirements
• Bring innovative ideas to improve customer objectives
• Set clear and measurable goals for the team and team members
• Mentor and promote team members

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 10+ years of working directly within engineering teams
• 5+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness

Pay

USA, VA, Arlington - $184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually

USA, VA, Herndon - $184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually
