Software Development Manager, Managed Platform Experience - MPE
About the role
The Managed Platform Experience team manages several Tier-1 services including Apollo Cloud Control to provision and scale infrastructure for other Amazon teams, in place host patching (Quilt), and custom AMI baking solutions. We also own DJS. We eliminate builder toil so engineers can focus on solving customer and business problems without worrying about their deployments, safety, hosts management, or capacity scaling. We own runtime experience for Amazon builders, providing safe and scalable solutions for both human developers and automated systems. Our products create a low-friction path from post-build artifacts to reliable and safe production deployments. We design for Amazon-scale while ensuring our tools are easy to use correctly and safe for automated agents to invoke.
Responsibilities
- Managing services that are used by Amazon builders to run their services.
- Directly hiring, retaining and growing top engineering talent for your team.
- Having a clear technical voice, working with and partnering with other teams to deliver a highly scalable and reliable service, meeting the needs of Amazon business and its engineers.
- Continuously and reliably delivering high quality technical solutions to delight your customers.
- Operating a critical service for Amazon
- Creating annual plans and contributing to the annual plans of the larger organization delivering products for Amazon engineers.
Requirements
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications: 3+ years of engineering team management experience, 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience, 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience, 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience, Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations, Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Pay
$184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually
