Software Development Engineer, Leo Payload

About the role
In this role, you will drive the design, development, and operation of key satellite functions such as Mode Management, telemetry, power control, and autonomous capabilities for each satellite throughout its lifetime—from launch to de-orbit. You will own unique software functions through design, implementation (in C, C++, Rust, or other AWS technologies), test, and integration in a production environment. You will collaborate closely with hardware teams for setup, verification, integration, and testing, focusing on the Satellite Communication Systems Payload. This is a standard Software Development Engineer (SDE) position; embedded experience is not required.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate software for satellite payload systems, including Mode Management, command & telemetry, and autonomous control.
- Own software functions from requirements through implementation, testing, and operations.
- Collaborate with hardware teams for system integration and verification.
- Work on the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and deployment.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship experience in system design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) for new and existing systems.
- Proficiency in at least one software programming language.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (Green Card holder) due to applicable export control laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Pay
Base salary range: $143,700 – $194,400 USD annually (Redmond, WA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
