About the role
We're hiring a Software Engineer II to join our Scout team—Remitly's Agentic AI team. We build AI-powered experiences that help customers send money and complete tasks wherever they are—on Remitly's website, mobile app, or third-party platforms like WhatsApp.
As a member of the Scout team, you'll help enable money transfer functionality on external platforms and contribute to a robust conversational AI platform used across the business. You'll be involved in prototyping, validating, and scaling new AI-driven solutions, working closely with cross-functional partners including UX, Legal, Compliance, and Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze requirements, clarifying feature requirements and technical design.
- Design and write high-quality, modular, and maintainable code for APIs, data storage solutions, and integrations with third-party services. Resolve root causes of most software failures, not just symptoms.
- Propose trade-offs on technical approach and surface risks early in business expectations and technical design.
- Possess knowledge of backend programming languages such as Java or Golang.
- Partners with product/program managers, marketing, compliance, and legal specialists to understand requirements and shape solutions.
- Provide comprehensive and constructive code reviews and design feedback to peers.
- Improve how software is deployed, documented, tested, logged, and monitored.
- Be an onboarding resource for new team members.
- Report directly to the Engineering Manager in Seattle.
Requirements
- A BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of professional experience
- Experience building and optimizing large-scale web architectures.
- Proven experience software development practices, system design, software design patterns, and algorithms.
- Proficiency in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).
Qualifications
- Experience with backend programming languages such as Java or Golang.
