About the role

EC2 is looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to join the Nitro Firmware Team. This team owns the intersection between EC2 hardware and the rest of the software stack in the Nitro card. The team is responsible for developing infrastructure and mechanisms to integrate and update firmware for the different components in the fleet at a regular cadence. Key metrics include ensuring software/firmware deployed to the EC2 fleet are functioning at scale with reduced failure and improved customer experience. This team also develops tools and processes to measure firmware performance, qualification, monitoring, and deployment across all EC2 platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on software development including software design reviews, implementation, code reviews, new platform enablement, automated test development, and monitoring to ensure code works at scale.
  • Work closely with Principal Engineers from EC2, silicon designers, hardware engineers, internal/external partners to develop robust and scalable mechanisms to update firmware across the fleet.
  • Develop and maintain firmware for EC2 hardware components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure firmware updates are integrated seamlessly into the EC2 ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Strong background in Test Driven Development and automating testing using scripting languages (Bash/Lua/JS/Python)
  • Experience with version control systems, automated build processes, and software unit testing

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of full software development life cycle experience
  • 3+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis)
  • 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience
  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent

Skills

  • Solid understanding of low-level embedded concepts
  • Ability to code in C/C++
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)
  • Experience with automated build processes
  • Experience with software unit testing
  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash/Lua/JS/Python)
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks

Pay

Base salary range for this position is $165,200.00 - $223,600.00 USD annually.
