Software Dev Engineer, EC2 Nitro

About the role

The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Nitro Dataplane team owns the packet pipeline that runs beneath all EC2 VPC instances, handling critical functions like security groups, routing, billing, and monitoring. This team aims to combine the performance of bare metal networking with cloud benefits, enabling features not possible on bare metal.

Responsibilities

• Mentor junior engineers and ensure adherence to development practices
• Lead architecture decisions, participate in designs, design reviews, and code reviews
• Manage day-to-day development activities, working closely with the engineering team
• Communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior management to gather requirements and describe software features

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience
• Experience with at least one software programming language
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and Linux kernel
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
• Ability to work independently and manage projects from scoping requirements to launch

Qualifications

• Proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms and data structures
• Scripting skills in Ruby, Python, or Rust
• Experience with modern programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python, or Perl
• Knowledge of Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth and complexity requirements

Skills

• Kernel or embedded development experience
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment
