Software Development Engineer - Distributed Services

About the role

The Item & Offer Platform engineering team is an agile, fast-moving team driving the future of Amazon's shopping experience. This role involves participating in all parts of the software development process, from collaborating with customers on design to executing that design in a scalable and extensible way.

Responsibilities

• Translate high-level, ambiguous business goals into software platforms that enable multiple businesses
• Solve hard computer science problems and help the business every day
• Collaborate with customers on design
• Execute design in a scalable and extensible way

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 1+ years of professional software development experience, or Bachelor's degree or above in engineering or equivalent
• Experience in computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis)
• Knowledge of computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, and problem solving
• Knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Perl

Qualifications

• Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
• Experience with distributed computing, programs and systems
• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
• Experience leading and influencing your team or organization, or experience debugging, profiling, and implementing best software engineering practices in large-scale systems
• 5+ years of server-side development experience
• Experience with large distributed IT systems

Pay

$143,700.00 - $194,400.00 USD annually
