Software Developer (Systems Software)
About the role
The successful candidate will join a dedicated team focused on designing, engineering, implementation, development, and maintenance of enterprise quality mission systems, networks, and applications. They will contribute to modernizing IT, enabling data, and automating processes to support critical federal missions.
Responsibilities
- Write, test, and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, Security Groups, NACLs, IAM, CloudWatch, and others.
- Implement and manage Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Jenkins or equivalent tools.
- Develop and maintain Bash and Python scripts for automation and integration.
- Containerize applications using Docker and orchestrate them with Kubernetes.
- Integrate and deploy diverse software systems, including AWS cloud services, open-source applications, COTS/GOTS products, and custom applications.
- Design and implement secure IAM policies and follow AWS architecture best practices.
- Utilize Git for version control, branching, and workflow management.
- Maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems like Prometheus, Alertmanager, CloudWatch, and Grafana.
- Manage database self-hosting, including installation, configuration, backup/recovery, high availability, and performance tuning for PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Implement secrets management solutions like AWS Secrets Manager.
- Plan and execute disaster recovery and backup strategies.
- Deploy and support data platform components such as Apache Spark, Trino, Apache Ranger, Apache Iceberg, Apache Superset, and data catalogs.
- Work with data lakehouse architectures and related infrastructure.
- Deploy and support AI/ML workloads or model serving infrastructure.
- Mentor team members on DevOps and cloud best practices.
- Integrate customer’s Enterprise services (SSO, etc.) and handle NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc.).
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and CloudFormation.

- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, security best practices, IAM policies, and AWS architecture best practices.
- Experience with Git-based workflows, branching strategies, and version control best practices.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems like Prometheus, Alertmanager, CloudWatch, and Grafana.
- Experience with database self-hosting including installation, configuration, backup/recovery, high availability, and performance tuning for PostgreSQL and MySQL.

- Knowledge of disaster recovery, backup strategies, and continuity planning.
- Familiarity with API gateways and modern microservices patterns.
- Experience with cost optimization practices in AWS.
- Experience deploying and managing data platform components like Apache Spark, Trino, Apache Ranger, Apache Iceberg, Apache Superset, data catalogs, and supporting infrastructure.
- Experience deploying and supporting AI/ML workloads or model serving infrastructure.
