About The Role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Developer to join our Observability Team. In this role, you will contribute to developing a cloud-native monitoring stack that integrates top-tier open-source monitoring tools. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in Python and/or Go, and a passion for building scalable, resilient, and user-friendly monitoring solutions. You will collaborate with a globally distributed team to design, develop, test, and document new features, ensuring the stack provides deep insights out of the box while maintaining a polished user experience. Your work will support both end-users and administrators by enabling smooth Day 1 and Day 2 operations, making complex monitoring tasks seamless and efficient. Additionally, you will participate in community interactions, review code contributions from peers, and represent Canonical at conferences, contributing to the ongoing evolution of our observability tools.

Qualifications

  • Passion for technology and working with talented, innovative teams
  • Strong soft skills including thoughtfulness, initiative, and self-motivation
  • College degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Proven experience as a Python developer, preferably with open-source contributions
  • Working knowledge of Go programming language
  • Interest and experience with two or more of the following: Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, distributed systems
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote environment

Responsibilities

  • Proactively collaborate with a globally distributed team to achieve project goals
  • Write, test, and document high-quality code to develop new features and improve existing functionalities
  • Debug issues efficiently and interact with the vibrant open-source community for support and contributions
  • Conduct code reviews to maintain high standards of quality and consistency
  • Participate in conferences and represent Canonical and the Charmed Observability Stack to the broader community
  • Work remotely with occasional travel (2-4 weeks per year) for internal and external events
