About the role
We are looking for a Software Developer to maintain, enhance, and modernize business-critical IBM iSeries applications, including COBOL-based ASI solutions. This role works with business partners, IT teams, and vendors to deliver reliable systems that support daily operations and long-term technology goals.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Analyze business and technical requirements, design solutions, and provide effort estimates.
- Prepare functional, technical, testing, implementation, and support documentation.
- Develop, modify, test, and maintain COBOL, RPGIV, RPGLE, CLLE, and related IBM iSeries programs.
- Enhance existing applications, support modernization opportunities, and apply standards for quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Perform unit, integration, regression, and production validation testing.
- Troubleshoot incidents, analyze production data, perform root-cause analysis, and implement reliable solutions.
- Monitor batch jobs, investigate abnormal terminations, and support timely production issue resolution.
- Support deployment planning, change management, release activities, and post-implementation validation.
- Communicate status, risks, and options clearly while sharing knowledge with teammates, business partners, vendors, and global IT teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related discipline is required.
- Master degree in Information Technology or related discipline, preferred
- 5 years of experience developing, maintaining, or supporting enterprise business applications.
- 5 years of experience with IBM iSeries application development or support using COBOL, RPGIV, RPGLE, CLLE, SQL, DB2 is required. ASI experience is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of database concepts, data structures, file layouts, queries, testing methods, and maintainable code practices.
- Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle, Agile or iterative delivery, documentation standards, and change control processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot application issues, analyze production data, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with business partners, vendors, and geographically distributed teams.
- Willingness to learn complex application environments, document findings, and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
- Willingness and ability to participate in a shared on-call rotation and provide evening or weekend support when needed for business-critical systems.
