About the role

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the Rufus Quality Engineering team. Rufus is Amazon's conversational AI shopping assistant. As an SDET on this team, you will play a critical role in building scalable test automation frameworks, enabling Continuous Deployment (Full CD), and driving quality excellence across Rufus services. The Alexa Shopping team is reimagining how customers discover products, manage their shopping lists, buy everyday essentials and groceries, and make confident purchase decisions through the power of voice, touch, and Generative AI. Responsibilities

• Test Automation Framework Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable, reusable test automation frameworks for Shopping's backend services, multi-modal device experiences (voice, visual, touch), and GenAI response validation.
• Tool Development: Build and maintain internal testing tools that enable SDEs to self-serve test authoring, execution, and quality validation.
• GenAI Quality Validation: Develop testing strategies and tooling for validating generative AI outputs, including prompt evaluation, response quality benchmarking, hallucination detection, and regression testing.
• Autonomous Test Generation: Contribute to agentic AI systems for traffic-weighted test generation, intelligent failure analysis, and predictive quality modeling.
• Quality Gates: Embed coverage into the release path through pipeline-blocking quality gates and automated go/no-go evaluation.
• Collaboration: Partner with feature teams to embed quality earlier in the development lifecycle and influence testability upstream, reducing production escapes.

About the team

We're a central platform team, not embedded QA. We own Alexa Shopping's quality automation framework, the org's QA bar and coverage methodology, self-service enablement for every vertical, and the production feedback loop that keeps our test coverage sharpening itself against real customer behavior. We're force multipliers, we favor reuse over rebuild, and we care deeply about craft.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development testing experience
• Experience designing or supporting low-maintenance automation frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of overall system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance in a database environment
• Experience with security in service-oriented architectures and web services

Pay

USA, WA, Seattle - $143,700.00 - $194,400.00 USD annually
