Application deadline: August 29, 2026

About the role

We are looking for a passionate Software Development Engineer to drive our device software into the next generation. You will support our current product line while driving innovation for Devices software features. As a seasoned engineer with deep technical expertise, you will make crucial technical decisions on architecture, design, implementation, and trade-offs, balancing complexity, performance, and delivery timelines.

You will collaborate with local and worldwide teams to shape the future of Amazon's device observability ecosystem, focusing on designing and building common capabilities that enable Amazon Devices teams to understand customer usage of devices, applications, and services. Your work will transform observations into actionable business intelligence, leading engineering efforts across interconnected capability layers, including Device Engagement Metrics & Insights.

Our mission is to provide trusted observability, customer intelligence, and decision support that helps teams build better customer experiences, accelerate product decisions, and grow the Amazon Devices ecosystem. You will partner with teams across Fire TV, Alexa, E-readers, Tablets, Ring, Blink, Eero, and Amazon to capture device interactions, application usage, setup experiences, and engagement signals that power business reporting, product health, and cross-device insights.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Strategy & Execution
    • Own the technical roadmap for device observability infrastructure, provisioning, and lifecycle features across Amazon's devices portfolio
    • Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant provisioning workflows and telemetry pipelines supporting the devices fleet at scale
    • Partner with teams across Fire TV, Tablet, eReaders, Alexa, Ring, and Blink on firmware strategy and instrumentation architecture for collecting device signals
    • Lead incident response, reduce provisioning failures, and improve time-to-production metrics
    • Define and monitor KPIs driving consistency and reliability across a multi-device portfolio
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Mentorship
    • Partner with Senior SDEs and SDMs to define technical standards and best practices
    • Influence technical direction aligned with broader Devices organization objectives
    • Mentor engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and architecture deep dives
  • Operational Excellence & Innovation
    • Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment automation
    • Champion system reliability, reduce toil, and balance delivery with technical debt reduction
    • Advocate for new technologies and methodologies that raise the engineering bar
  • Business Impact & Communication
    • Translate business requirements into technical designs with clear milestones
    • Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs through written narratives and design documents
    • Build stakeholder trust through consistent, high-quality delivery

A day in the life

You will be the technical leader responsible for service design, development, and operations. You will brainstorm new ideas and work on forward-looking architectures with other Senior Software Engineers. Your responsibilities will include architecting, analyzing, designing, developing, testing, and deploying software features, as well as fixing defects. You will participate in and lead sprint planning and daily scrums, break down technical work, identify blockers, and navigate solutions. Mentoring team members and partnering with managers and technical leaders across the organization will be key to achieving technical consensus. You will also author documents to communicate vision, proposals, and designs.
