About the role

The Guilford County Department of Social Services seeks Child Protective Services Social Workers to provide social work services to individuals who have been identified as victims or potential victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation and/or dependency as defined by North Carolina General Statutes. This role involves assessing families, ensuring safety and supporting families in improving conditions that led to agency intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, permanent, and nurturing families for children in DSS custody.
  • Help families improve conditions that led to agency intervention.
  • Provide information to service providers, community partners, and the court as needed.
  • Collaborate with parents, service providers, law enforcement, medical personnel, mental health professionals, court partners, etc.
  • Recruit and provide supervision for potential adoptive families and adoptive children.
  • Make prompt and thorough assessments when receiving reports of abuse, neglect, or dependency.
  • Analyze cases to determine whether protective services should be provided or if a petition should be filed.
  • Follow State of NC and legal system procedures.
  • Recruit, train, and retain families interested in fostering or adopting children.
  • Engage in community education and training families in the foster and adoptive processes.
  • Develop recruitment strategies for foster and adoptive homes.

Requirements

  • MSW from an accredited School of Social Work.
  • BSW-Child Welfare Collaborative (for child welfare positions only).
  • BSW from an accredited School of Social Work.
  • Master's degree in a human service field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Counseling).
  • Bachelor's degree in a human service field.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Years of professional social work or social worker related experience.

  • Knowledge of policy and procedure.
  • Ability to deal with families and the public.
  • Advanced case management interview techniques.
  • Quick assessment of environments.
  • Written documentation in case records.
  • Expert resolution skills in complex cases.
  • Analysis of child developmental safety issues.
  • Analysis of situations regarding court action necessity.

Pay

Minimum Salary = $52,735.00 annually
