About the Role
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, this position provides students, parents, administrators, and teaching staff with individually-tailored advice and consultation to overcome personal, emotional, familial, or social issues, maximizing students' learning experiences.
Responsibilities
- Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning or social interaction issues and recommend corrective procedures.
- Performs casework services with students and parents to encourage parental understanding and participation in overcoming social issues.
- Assists in implementing students' behavior management plans.
- Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
- Collaborates with administrators and teaching staff to assess individual student needs, including those with special needs, and familiarize stakeholders with social work services.
- Supports the school district's dropout prevention efforts.
- Provides counseling to students and parents, fostering personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as a liaison between home and school.
- Stays current with developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, research, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Maintains accurate and complete record-keeping systems for student information, complying with district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Assists in the orientation of new teachers and provides in-service training in guidance.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Requirements
- NYS Certification as a School Social Worker.
- Successful prior experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of Social Work principles, theories, testing, and methods, as well as proven behavior management strategies.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Pay
Day 1–20: $130 per day. Day 21 onward: 1/200 of step, ranging from $62,306 to $135,587 (2025/2026 school year).
