Examples of Duties
- Coordinates and supervises the operations of an assigned shift of 911, Fire Dispatch, and Police Dispatch personnel in the 911 Center.
- Supervises shift supervisors in 911, Police Dispatch, and Fire Dispatch on an assigned shift.
- Covers operational efficiency of 911 Center functions and recommends changes.
- Covers scheduling of staff on the shift to ensure adequate coverage of all functions.
- Collects and reviews time and attendance sheets, reports, and other information from shift supervisors.
- Serves as center representative for all administrative and operational functions after normal work hours.
- Ensures that the Center is secured after normal work hours.
- Serves as a point of contact for visitors and media personnel.
- Maintains communication between the 911 Center and building operations and maintenance personnel.
- Receives and relays emergency communications to on-duty personnel.
- Receives, investigates, and resolves complaints from citizens and other agencies.
- Prepares transcripts and tapes of 911 conversations and radio transmissions for litigation, complaint, or training purposes.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
Qualifications
- Possession of an associate in arts degree or completion of 60 credits, from an accredited college or university, plus three years' experience in radio-telephone communications systems, electronic systems, or closely related work, two years of which were in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Additional experience in radio-telephone communications systems, electronic systems, or closely related work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required education.
- Character Requirements: All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and drug test.
- Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Dispatcher certificate issued by a nationally recognized and accredited Emergency Medical Dispatch Program is required at the time of appointment.
Conditions of Employment
- Persons appointed to this position may work on either a rotating or fixed shift basis, which will include nights, weekends, or holidays when scheduled.
- Persons appointed to this position must satisfactorily complete and maintain certification in State and County sponsored mandated training as required.
- Physical and Environmental Conditions: The work of this classification is essentially sedentary and entails the operation of data entry and other equipment in which manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are important. Some duties also entail walking, standing, and/or other limited physical activity.
