Job Summary
The Social Worker I position works in the Youth Prevention (YP) program at the Center for Addiction and Recovery Studies (CARS) as a Prevention Specialist. This position works with at-risk youth from grades 1-12 in local schools and other community sites. The Prevention Specialist facilitates groups with students, hosts interactive educational activities about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD), and conducts outreach events. There is also education for adults and managing tables at fairs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Delivers assigned prevention / intervention programs with quality and fidelity.
- Develops replicable models for non-curriculum-based activities, such as alternative activities or ATOD education.
- Supervises assigned interns as Practicum Supervisor or Task Manager to ensure compliance with YP program and School of Social Work Practicum Office requirements.
- Gathers accurate information and submits programmatic reports within required time frames.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the YP programs, CARS operations and School of Social Work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work.
Preferred Qualifications
- License Master Social Worker.
- Bilingual (Spanish/ English).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Certified Social Worker.
- Competent computer skills.
- Ability to work with children, youth and adults.
- Skilled at engaging individuals and facilitating groups.
- Knowledge of social work interventions and code of ethics.
- Ability to implement programs with fidelity.
- Workplace and Eligibility Conditions: Most of work is in the community. Usually this is in climate-controlled space in schools or community centers. There are some outdoor activities, such as health fairs, that are subject to weather conditions. Must have reliable form of transportation.
