Social Worker - Family Preventative Services

Full-time position in the Preventative Family Services program based at 400 Liberty Street, Brooklyn, NY (11207). Schedule: Monday–Friday.

About the role

Social Workers provide a range of supportive services to families identified by the child-welfare system as at-risk for child abuse and/or neglect. The goal is to help parents and caregivers address barriers to their children’s health, safety, and well-being so families can stabilize, strengthen, and reduce future child-welfare involvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home, virtual, and community-based supportive services to a caseload of 12 families weekly, including family therapy, client advocacy, parent coaching, service coordination, and case management.
• Make safety and risk assessments regarding children’s health, safety, and well-being and develop corresponding safety and intervention plans.
• Participate in all family-court hearings and family-team conferences.
• Prepare written court reports and collaborate with Family Service Unit (FSU) and Family Court Legal Services (FCLS) to ready for hearings.
• Collaborate with ACS and other referral sources to engage families and transition them into specialized services as needed.
• Conduct at least monthly home visits to assess the safety of the home environment.
• Provide off-site advocacy and coaching to help clients overcome barriers to needed services.
• Document all casework activity in city and state reporting systems (PROMIS, CONNECTIONS) while maintaining compliance with child-welfare mandates and program protocols.
• Actively participate in individual and group supervision, staff trainings, and unit meetings, including live or taped session consultations and peer feedback.
• Engage in all activities required by the program’s model-development process and deliver services as described by the current model version.
• Collaborate with ACS and other providers to address assessment, service-coordination, planning, or crisis-intervention challenges.
• Attend ACS conferences and advocate for families as needed.
• Perform other tasks as required.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Previous work experience in a helping role with children, teens, parents, or families.
• Willingness and ability to conduct field work, including community home visits.
• Strong interest in learning Structural Family Therapy and working from a systemically oriented perspective; willingness to participate in training and supervision that includes live and taped observation and constructive feedback.
• Ability to remain resourceful and communicative under stress and change.
• Ability to work until 8 pm twice a week.

Pay

Annual rate of pay: $58,000.
