Social Worker

Summary or Purpose

The Social Worker will promote and support the NSBSD Board of Education Strategic Plan and District Pedagogy under the direction of the Director of Student Services. This role supports the well-being of students and families by providing direct services and connecting them to community resources, focusing on overcoming social, emotional, and economic barriers that impact learning and daily functioning. The Social Worker collaborates with educators, parents, and community agencies to promote student success and family stability.

Requirements

• Master's degree in social work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field required or preferred.
• Five years of work experience, two of which in cross-cultural service delivery, is preferred.
• Must have (or be eligible for and/or working towards) State of Alaska Licensure in respective field required.
• Experience processing and assessing referrals and exiting students from services preferred.
• Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally appropriate individual, group, and family behavioral health therapeutic check-in services, including mental health, behavioral health, and prevention services.
• Provide appropriate resource support to administrative staff, teachers, and schools.
• Provide appropriate and relevant referrals for ongoing care and support.
• Establish appropriate functional, school-based goals and objectives to address student needs in mental health, behavioral health, and prevention services.
• Provide prevention-based services that support coping skills, groups, and telehealth services.
• Develop and provide on-site and distance therapeutic check-in services for students and families, as well as referrals, to meet individual needs.
• Function as a team member and collaborate with regular education, special education, and necessary school staff in planning, supporting, and providing instruction in various school settings.
• Coordinate inter-agency linkages as appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with other social work staff to provide prevention-based services.
• Prepare and maintain confidential records and program reports, adhering to governmental and organizational policies.
• Collaborate/consult with classroom teachers in the appropriate identification and support of mental health and behavioral health needs.
• Provide community engagement opportunities.
• Provide educational programming for schools and community groups.
• Adhere to local, state, federal regulations, and ethical practices, including confidentiality.
• Follow District, State, and Federal regulations and mandates.
• Provide services in various settings, including schools, homes, or village-based schools.
• Travel between and among school sites throughout the district and to students' homes as necessary.
• Perform other tasks and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
