Social Worker

The full-time Social Worker will be directed by the Lead MSW but administratively supervised by the Executive Director of Student Academic Success, working to improve student success through intentional and functional social support programming while helping to create a college culture of care.

The Social Worker will provide a systematic response to student needs by connecting students with community and college-based resources, implement case management and outcomes-based processes, troubleshoot and advocate for student concerns, and participate in College committees and initiatives that identify gaps and improve college operations. Additional duties include:

• Keeping abreast of new and emerging research that supports student success through social services programming
• Facilitating student emergency funding
• Guiding social work graduate and undergraduate interns, work-study students, and volunteers
• Collaborating with LCFLC and other MCC staff on programming related to Title IX administration and closing the achievement gap initiatives for all students
• Implementing, coordinating, and sustaining on- and off-campus support systems
• Providing leadership within the Center with a cross-divisional approach to social support programming
• Implementing routine communication strategies that support high levels of Center functionality

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related field
• Fully Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Michigan (LLMSW or LLPC will be considered but must be fully licensed within 24 months of hire)
• At least two years’ experience in providing social work services, including casework, case management, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention
• Experience delivering human services as a team member
• Demonstrated commitment to the success of economically disadvantaged and/or marginalized people
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with strong presentation abilities
• Professional conduct in interactions with the public, colleagues, and students
• Experience using Google Suites and other computer applications
• Adherence to the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive documents
• Valid Michigan driver’s license with a three-year safe driving record; must provide own transportation
• Ability to complete records and documentation in a timely manner
• Ability to move materials weighing up to 10 pounds
• Ability to work independently, under direction, and as part of a team
• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills
• Ability to work under stress and meet rigorous deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Fully Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Michigan
• Knowledge of local social well-being resources in Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee counties
• Experience supervising employees, interns, and/or volunteers
• Experience teaching and/or delivering social services in a college environment
• Other experience working in higher education

Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position requiring 40 hours per week. The employee must work the hours necessary to fulfill the functions and roles of the position and may be required to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
