Social Worker
About the role
Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) seeks an experienced and mission-driven Social Worker to provide assessment, supportive counseling, case management, and support service referrals to clients across Goodwill NYNJ Workforce Development programs. The ideal candidate will help participants identify needs, reduce barriers, connect to appropriate resources, and remain engaged in services that support employment and long-term stability.
Responsibilities
- Provide client-centered social work services to a diverse population.
- Perform initial intake, assessment, and service planning to develop participant goals.
- Engage participants quickly and build rapport using a strengths-based, person-centered approach.
- Develop and maintain a portfolio of community resources and partnerships to address supportive service needs.
- Provide coordinated case management, service planning, and follow-up support.
- Maintain client documentation and files in accordance with ethical, legal, confidentiality, and program standards.
- Collaborate with participants and program staff using evidence-based practices to support engagement and progress.
- Monitor planned actions through periodic follow-up and update service plans as needed.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the case management system.
- Assess and address barriers to employment (e.g., housing instability, childcare, transportation, mental health, substance use, and legal/immigration issues) and connect participants to appropriate community-based partners.
- Conduct safety and crisis intervention planning, including risk assessment and emergency referrals.
- Collaborate with job developers, Career Navigators, and program staff to align supportive services with employment goals.
- Apply trauma-informed practices in all participant interactions.
- Track and report participant outcomes in accordance with program and funder requirements.
- Fulfill mandated reporting responsibilities as required by law.
Requirements
- Current Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) required.
- 2-5 years of related experience in social work, case management, behavioral health, workforce development, or human services.
- Experience working with diverse populations and helping clients navigate a range of systems.
- Strong crisis intervention, assessment, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Commitment to a strengths-based, person-centered approach.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Proficiency with case management systems (Salesforce, SEAMS, etc.) preferred.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work or related field.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet program demand and client needs.
- High-volume caseload with time-sensitive documentation and participant engagement requirements.
- Fast-paced, outcomes-driven environment requiring strong follow-through and collaboration.
