About the Role
Provide educationally related social work services for students with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Complete routine reports and tasks promptly and efficiently.
- Participate in student planning and program development.
- Implement individual student programs.
- Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate.
- Work productively with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Demonstrate accurate knowledge of the field.
- Demonstrate appropriate assessment techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrate a professional demeanor as defined by the code of ethics of the education professional.
- Conduct an individualized social-emotional-adaptive assessment of the student, the student’s family, and the educational and social communities.
- Employ appropriate methods of practice that enable students and their families to function adequately within their educational and community settings.
- Utilize ongoing appropriate methods to evaluate services.
- Prepare social or developmental histories for students with disabilities.
- Provide group and individual counseling with students and their families who are receiving special education as identified as a need through assessment.
- Work with problems in student living situations (home, community, and school) that affect their adjustment in school.
- Mobilize school and community resources to enable students to receive benefit from their special education services.
- Attend Multidisciplinary Team meetings as needed to discuss student needs, evaluation data, and to plan for goals and objectives, if appropriate.
- Maintain necessary and appropriate licensure.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
Requirements
- Must have current MSW license.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with parents, students, and school personnel.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds).
- Reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing.
- Physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal and move light furniture.
Equipment/Technology Handled
Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
- Interruptions of work are routine.
- Flexibility and patience are required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
