About the role
The Health and Wellness Section seeks a Social Worker to support NYPD members experiencing stress related to personal, occupational, or critical incidents. The role involves outreach, assessment, and coordination of referrals to mental health professionals.
Responsibilities
- Identify barriers to care and coordinate referrals to mental health, behavioral health, substance misuse, and community-based resources
- Collaborate with psychologists, peer counselors, command staff, and community partners to ensure comprehensive support
- Maintain professional objectivity, sound clinical judgment, and discretion while handling sensitive NYPD matters with empathy
- Work effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced, and evolving environments while managing time-sensitive responsibilities
- Show strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
Requirements
- A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license from the New York State Department of Education within one year of appointment
- Experience working in law enforcement is preferred but not required

Special Note
Section 424-a of the New York Social service Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child-care responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report. The agency has the discretion to assign a candidate who has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report to a position with no child-care responsibilities.
