Social Work Specialist (Association Office)

About the role

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a dynamic Social Work Specialist to provide direct SIFI supervision to MSW Interns placed at various YMCA branches and case management support to YMCA staff in the mental wellness and case management field. This part-time position requires 6–10 hours per week.

The Social Work Specialist functions as the Field Supervisor to an annual cohort of MSW interns placed in sites where an existing MSW is not employed, supporting their field study completion, including successes, challenges, and compliance through weekly supervision. They also support Site Task Managers with intern task creation and compliance through coaching.

Responsibilities

• Lead one to three weekly group supervision sessions with MSW Interns, lasting 90 minutes each (at least one in the early evening and one during daytime hours).
• Prepare and maintain all required records and reports as mandated by placement schools or licensing organizations, including education plans, process recordings, time sheets, mid-year reviews, and end-of-year reviews.
• Coordinate with Site Task Managers to support intern task creation, successes, challenges, and compliance through coaching and support as needed.
• Provide MSW orientation support.
• Participate in faculty advisor visits when needed.
• Visit interns at their YMCA placement sites as required.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work and professional licensure in NYS as a licensed social worker (LMSW).
• Successful completion of the Semester in Field Instruction Course (SIFI).
• Previous experience in youth work, staff training, and supervision in a non-profit organization.
• Familiarity with brief, structured short-term counseling techniques and case management (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) across diverse populations, including juvenile justice, probation, foster care, older adults, youth, school-age children, early childhood, and new immigrants.
• Ability to coordinate with professionals from varied backgrounds and organizational levels.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to produce high-quality results on time.
