About the role

The Neurodiagnostic Institute and Advanced Treatment Center (NDI) is part of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) on the Community Hospital East campus in Indianapolis. This role involves managing various aspects of social services and coordinating with multiple disciplines to support patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility over major components of social services department such as community programs or clinical services.
  • Evaluate treatment plan formulation and effectiveness and make necessary changes within social services.
  • Discuss and resolve treatment issues related to individual cases, program or department policy, and professional standards.
  • Meet with treatment staff from other disciplines to handle complex cases and coordinate interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Conduct admissions for new patients, including completing ROIs, conducting biopsychosocial assessments, and documenting admission notes.
  • Inform patients of their rights and maintain therapeutic alliances with patients and families.
  • Create and execute treatment plans through private consultations and therapeutic group interventions.
  • Facilitate referrals to therapeutic groups and participate in daily morning huddles.
  • Communicate with external parties such as gatekeepers, guardians, and community agencies to explain services and agency mission.
  • Maintain open lines of communication between NDI team and external parties.
  • Make recommendations to the department director regarding procedure and policy changes and assist in establishing referral relationships and student clinical training experiences.
  • Complete progress notes and “real-time” documentation of interactions with patients and external stakeholders using the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Handle patient logistics, including managing phone and visit lists, completing Leave of Absence paperwork, and managing patient funds.
  • Place patients on discharge waitlists or transfer waitlists and complete associated paperwork.
  • Provide updates about complex patient discharges to the PSD complex discharge committee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Service related field (social work, sociology, psychology, human services, or criminal justice) with experience in the mental health field preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of community social service agencies.
  • Ability to supervise and plan the coordination of social service programs with other related agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of psychiatric social work principles and practices, including casework, group counseling, and community placement.
  • Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines for the care, treatment, and rights of the mentally ill.
  • Working knowledge of roles of other treatment disciplines and ability to coordinate interdisciplinary approaches to treatment.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and personnel techniques as related to the effective supervision and direction of programs.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for agency-wide social services programs in the absence of the director.
  • Ability to analyze program needs and effectiveness and formulate plans for change.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Service related field.
  • Experience in the mental health field preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of community social service agencies.
  • Ability to supervise and plan social service programs.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric social work principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to mental health care.
  • Ability to coordinate interdisciplinary approaches to treatment.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and personnel techniques.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for agency-wide social services programs.
  • Ability to analyze program needs and effectiveness.
  • Effective communication skills.
