About the role

Vel R. Phillips Summer School is seeking a Social Studies Teacher to join our team for the summer session from June 22nd to July 31st. The anticipated start date is June 16, 2026, and the anticipated hours are 8 AM - 12 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and diverse needs of students by providing meaningful learning experiences.
  • Adds value to the curriculum by addressing appropriate curriculum standards.
  • Designs lessons that integrate key content elements and higher-level thinking skills.
  • Links present content with past and future learning experiences, other subject areas, and real-world applications.
  • Displays accurate knowledge of the subject matter and demonstrates skills relevant to the subject area(s).
  • Bases instruction on high expectations and understanding of the subject matter.
  • Understands the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of the age group of students.
  • Uses precise language, correct vocabulary, and grammar, and acceptable forms of communication related to a specific discipline and/or grade level.
  • Gains knowledge and understanding of school, family, and community resources to support all students' learning needs.
  • Adapts instruction to accommodate diverse learners.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Social Studies, Social Studies (Fusion Course), or an alternative education field.
  • A Wisconsin DPI License.
  • Relevant certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching practices.
  • Ability to design lessons that meet the educational needs of all students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.
  • Preferred knowledge of professional learning communities, PBIS, and MLSS.
  • Preferred understanding of relevant common core standards.

Qualifications

  • Relevant certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching practices.
  • Ability to design lessons that meet the educational needs of all students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.
  • Preferred knowledge of professional learning communities, PBIS, and MLSS.
