Social Studies/English Language Arts Teacher/Tutor for QLC (9th-12th )

Under the direction of the Coordinator of the Qatqiġvik Learning Center, the teacher is responsible for implementing research-based instructional strategies that direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students by developing, nurturing, and sustaining a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning. All instruction will be individualized, addressing differences in learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, and level of achievement to inform instructional decision-making. Teachers are expected to vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology based on frequent assessment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment. Training will be provided for subjects outside the teacher’s area of preparation.
• Use appropriate assessment methods to identify student proficiency levels and plan short- and long-range programs tailored to those needs, using both formative and summative student achievement data to evaluate instructional strategies.
• Foster harmonious and cooperative relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members, demonstrating flexibility, openness, warmth, and supportiveness.
• Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
• Develop culturally responsive instruction that reflects local culture and addresses diverse community interests and needs.
• Adhere to the code of ethics and professional teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State.
• Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator of QLC and maintain digital copies throughout the year.
• Follow all District policies and regulations.
• Perform additional tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education required; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Alaska Teacher Certificate or Type M Certificate required, or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
• CTE experience preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with ACE, PBIS, and Restorative Circles preferred.
• Experience with Inupiaq language, history, and culture preferred.

Pay

Grade Minimum: $2,500 - 3 weeks per quarter
