About the role

Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as a Social Services Mental Health Specialist V. In this advanced therapeutic counseling position you will provide counseling, recovery planning, support groups, and consultation on treatment interventions for patients across the hospital. You will work with families, Legally Authorized Representatives, courts, and local mental health authorities while documenting all efforts in the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities

• Attend work regularly and may be required to work a specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift, or overtime in accordance with agency policy.
• Perform counseling and therapeutic activities, including individual, group, and family therapy with patients; meet with families and treatment team members to provide information and assist with discharge planning; document all efforts in the electronic medical record.
• Develop individualized Person‑Centered Recovery Plans that incorporate patient goals, identify barriers, and outline appropriate objectives and interventions; document all efforts in the electronic medical record.
• Interview referred patients and recommend appropriate treatments to the patient’s treatment team.
• Provide consultation regarding treatment interventions for patients across the hospital.
• Conduct support groups and communicate with families, Legally Authorized Representatives, courts, and Local Mental Health or Behavioral Health Authorities.
• Participate in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay

Salary range: $6,149.00 – $7,253.83 per month (pay frequency: monthly).

Schedule

Day shift; not eligible for telework; full‑time regular schedule; may require overtime or rotating shifts as needed.
