About the Role

Social Services Assistants play an important role in supporting children and families involved with the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This position provides direct support to families through transportation assistance, supervision of family time, and engagement with children and caregivers to help support safety, stability, and well-being. Frequent in-state travel is required, and this job will require mornings, evenings, and weekends because flexibility to meet the needs of the family is a must.

Responsibilities

• Assist in client intake and service referrals.
• Provide basic counseling and resource navigation.
• Maintain accurate records and case documentation.
• Support community outreach and public education initiatives.
• Coordinate scheduling and follow-ups for client services.
• Safely supervise and transport children of various ages.
• Engage with families on parenting, basic life skills, time management, and communication.
• Work independently and collaborate with community partners, agency staff, and families.

Requirements

• Minimum of six months of work experience in human services programs or public service.
• Background check and child/adult maltreatment registry check required.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
• Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional background or specific skills in supporting families through positive communication, professionalism, and dependable service delivery.
• Experience working with children and adult clients of all ages.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
