Social Media Manager - Police
About the role
The work of this classification involves the creation, implementation, and management of social media strategy. This position assists with content creation across multiple platforms. An incumbent in this position exercises considerable independence in the performance of duties and responsibilities and receives general guidance from a superior.
Responsibilities
- Create content for a variety of platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
- Implement and manage all social media programs for the assigned division/department.
- Maintain regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
- Participate in professional associations that will increase understanding of social media tools, techniques, and applications.
- Collaborate with command staff, public information officers, and emergency management partners to ensure coordinated communication.
- Develop pre-scripted templates and strategies for rapid deployment during emergencies.
- Track, analyze, and report on social media analytics to assess impact on community relations and recruitment.
- Respond appropriately to misinformation, rumors, and online speculation, and monitor public conversations, engaging when appropriate.
- Support public safety messaging by producing content that emphasizes prevention, education, recruitment, and community engagement.
- Develop talking points for press conferences, community events, and other public appearances.
- Monitor social media tools, trends, and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increasing the use of social media among employees the assigned division/department.
- Curate shareable content by managing and maintaining the Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCVB) calendar of events, as well as creating content for the Omaha Visitors Guide and the Visit Omaha website.
- Strengthen social media relationships with tourism partners.
- Support public service, employee achievements, and community partnerships by creating effective content designed to inform, engage, and build trust with the public.
Requirements
The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related field AND One (1) years of related professional experience in mass communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from the time of appointment.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.
- If assigned to Crisis Communications, one year of crisis communication experience is preferred.
Pay
$61,006.40 with step increases to $76,003.20 Annually
