About the Role

The City of Arlington’s Office of Communication is seeking a creative and tech-savvy Digital Media Specialist to serve the Parks, Recreation & Culture (PRC) Department. This role involves bringing the department’s digital content to life by brainstorming, creating, and sharing engaging content about Arlington's award-winning parks, facilities, programs, and events across social media and City websites.

Responsibilities

  • Create shareable, buzz-worthy content that captures the essence of the department, making people stop scrolling and engage with posts.
  • Serve as the face of PRC on social media by leading and participating in videos, live streams, or behind-the-scenes content to showcase the Naturally Fun brand.
  • Monitor viral trends, challenges, and hot topics on social media, and incorporate them into the content strategy in a timely and relevant manner.
  • Engage with the community by responding to comments, running polls or Q&As, and sparking conversations to build a strong online presence.
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure a steady stream of diverse content, including promotions, event highlights, community stories, and location spotlights.
  • Track and analyze content performance using analytics tools, adjusting strategies based on what resonates most with the community.
  • Collaborate with local influencers, city partners, and community figures to cross-promote content and expand the PRC department's digital reach.
  • Build and maintain digital spaces, including PRC websites and intranet, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, accessible, and secure by collaborating with internal teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media, or a related field, and 3–5 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Experience with municipal government or parks and recreation is preferred but not required.

  • Creative Storyteller: Ability to think outside the box to create fun, engaging digital content that gets attention, blending trends authentically.
  • Camera-Ready: Comfortable being in front of the camera for videos, photos, or live content, bringing energy, personality, and professionalism to every post.
  • Tech Savvy: Expertise in website and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, etc.) and knowledge of their tools, algorithms, and features to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Self-Starter and Organized: Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects without constant oversight.
  • Collaborative: Works well independently but also takes initiative to collaborate with peers and promote diverse business units, ensuring their stories and offerings get attention.
