About the role
Mental Health Therapists shall be appointed annually, upon the recommendation of the ACS Project Director, Chief Academic Officer, or Superintendent. Job Goal: To provide mental health support services to students, parents, and school staff.
Responsibilities
- Carry out all responsibilities and duties as identified in the federal ACS Helps Grant without undue checking or follow-up by supervisors.
- Determine appropriate actions within clearly defined guidelines.
- Present a positive image of the school and self to the students, parents, and staff.
- Communicate genuine care and concern for the individual growth and development of each student and staff member.
- React positively to directives.
- Maintain confidentiality, verbal and written, of student's situations and educational records.
- Strive to continuously improve professional competence.
- Adhere to all School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
- Analyze SEL and mental health data to determine the students to be served.
- Provide support for students utilizing the relaxation room.
- Work with district mental health therapist and ACS helps director to coordinate student support.
- Create a schedule of small group psychoeducational lessons and adhere to the schedule to provide skills to students who need it.
- Implement recommended behavioral interventions for students.
- Provide necessary documentation and data to the Project Director or Chief Academic Officer in a timely manner and as required by the grant.
- Support the mental health and SEL screening for students.
- Adhere to laws, policies, and authority.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, human services or other equivalent certification.
- Be able to provide group psycho-educational skills lessons to students independently.
- Be able to work flexible hours to meet program needs and requirements.
- Have experience working with children.
- Have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and positively with students, colleagues, and other adults.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff.
- Carry out all the required duties and responsibilities as required by the ACS Helps Grant.
