SOC Lead

About the role

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a SOC Lead to support a federal program in Manassas, VA. The SOC Lead will oversee Security Operations Center activities, lead incident response efforts, and guide a team of cybersecurity professionals in protecting critical systems and sensitive data. This individual will serve as the senior escalation point for security incidents while driving continuous improvements to threat detection, response processes, and SOC operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor SOC analysts, ensuring effective daily operations and 24/7 security monitoring readiness
• Direct the identification, analysis, containment, and remediation of cybersecurity incidents and threats
• Reconstruct attack timelines and perform advanced investigations using network, endpoint, and log data
• Oversee and optimize SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint security, and monitoring platforms to improve threat visibility
• Analyze threat intelligence, network traffic, and security events to identify emerging risks and attack vectors
• Communicate cybersecurity risks, incident findings, and recommendations to technical teams and senior leadership
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives through after-action reviews, reporting, metrics analysis, and process enhancements

Qualifications

• Active DOE Q Clearance or Top Secret Clearance
• 10+ years of cybersecurity experience, including 4+ years in a SOC leadership or security operations management role
• Strong experience leading incident response activities involving network intrusions, malware, and data breach investigations
• Hands-on expertise in network defense, threat detection, vulnerability management, and security operations
• Experience analyzing large-scale security datasets, including logs, network traffic, and threat intelligence sources
• Preferred certifications include CISSP, CISM, GCIH, GCIA, or equivalent cybersecurity certifications
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to brief technical and non-technical stakeholders

Compensation

• Salary Range: $155,000 - $170,000 based on experience
