Snowflake Platform Administrator
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Data Platform Operations Engineer with expertise in Snowflake to join our cloud data team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations and readiness of our Snowflake environment. The successful candidate will provide first-level support for platform applications, participate in operational rotations and disaster recovery exercises, and maintain optimal platform availability, performance, and adherence to business continuity standards. This position requires a blend of engineering and operational skills, including troubleshooting, Snowflake administration, and cross-team collaboration to resolve issues and drive operational improvements.
Responsibilities
- Provide first-level support for Snowflake platform applications, handling incident triage, resolution, and escalation.
- Monitor the health and performance of the Snowflake environment using observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, or Snowsight.
- Participate in disaster recovery and operational rotation exercises to ensure platform readiness and validate business continuity plans.
- Develop, maintain, and execute operational runbooks for Snowflake support scenarios and application recovery, including in remote AWS regions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement platform updates and gather diagnostic information for advanced troubleshooting.
- Support lifecycle management of Snowflake objects, including creating, modifying, and retiring databases, schemas, and roles.
- Operate and manage identity and access management (IAM) services, including user and role management. Support IAM integrations with enterprise tools such as Entra (Azure AD) or Hashicorp Vault, execute secrets rotation, and troubleshoot SCIM provisioning issues.
- Contribute to the creation of training materials, job aids, and documentation for operational support staff.
- Utilize ITSM tools such as ServiceNow to manage incidents, problems, changes, and service requests.
- Collaborate with platform and account teams to identify and resolve platform issues efficiently.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Snowflake platform operations or support.
- Proficiency in SQL and basic scripting (Python or Bash) for automation purposes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and infrastructure automation tools like Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with Linux system administration and batch scheduling tools like Autosys.
- Basic knowledge of AWS infrastructure as a service (IaaS); experience with Azure or GCP is acceptable.
- Understanding of ITSM processes and tools, such as ServiceNow.
- Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
- Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Snowflake integrations with business analytics tools such as Power BI, Looker, or Quicksight.
- Exposure to Snowpark container services and Snowpipe stream analytics.
- Familiarity with Snowflake Cortex AI services.
- Experience with configuration management database (CMDB) tools such as CloudAware.
