Responsibilities

  • Utilize lived experience in behavioral health recovery, substance use recovery, or family support to provide person-centered, recovery-oriented services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment.

  • Work collaboratively with clinical, medical, and case management teams to promote engagement, improve retention in services, and support whole-person wellness through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care.

  • Support individuals in identifying and pursuing personal recovery, wellness, and life goals, and assist in developing coping skills, wellness strategies, and recovery supports.

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-led groups, educational sessions, and recovery-oriented activities, and provide education related to recovery, wellness, coping skills, relapse prevention, harm reduction, and self-management.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with agency standards, and document peer support services, group participation, outreach activities, and recovery support interventions as required.

  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, medical providers, psychiatric providers, and other treatment team members to support continuity of care and successful transitions between services and levels of care.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: Must have lived experience with behavioral health and/or substance use recovery and have successfully navigated services. Must be in stable recovery and/or wellness for a minimum of one (1) year. Must be willing and able to appropriately share lived experience to support others in a professional peer role.

  • Licenses/Certifications: State-recognized Peer Support Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. BLS certification, Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card, and relevant certifications related to recovery support, mental health, or substance use treatment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of peer support principles, recovery-oriented practices, and trauma-informed care.

  • Knowledge of behavioral health systems, recovery resources, and community supports.

  • Ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with individuals and families.

  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries consistent with peer support standards.

  • Ability to facilitate groups and recovery-oriented activities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and community partners.

  • Ability to navigate community resources and support systems.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and comply with regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed services.
