About the Role

Auxiliary Services, part of the Operations Division, manages departments and programs including Parking, ID Card Office, Transportation (Shuttles, Fleet, Accessible Transit), Vending, Residential Laundry, Contract Dining units, Event and Conferences, Tufts Bookstore, and the SMFA Art Store. Auxiliary Services supports Tufts University across four campuses and remote programs: Tufts University (Medford, MA), The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine (Grafton, MA), Tufts Medical & Dental Schools (Boston, MA), and The School of The Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA).

Responsibilities

  • SMFA Art Store and Mailroom Management
    • Support the management of the SMFA art store and operation of the SMFA mailroom.
    • Oversee day-to-day operations when the manager is not on-site.
  • Student Staffing
    • Hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising student employees.
    • Cross-training student staff to work in both the Art Store and Mailroom.
  • Mailroom Operations
    • Manage daily operations of the mailroom.
    • Create and maintain mailroom procedures and best practices aligned with USPS standards and regulations.
  • Financial Reporting and POS Systems
    • Support daily POS and revenue reconciliation processes under the supervision of the store manager.
    • Ensure knowledge and expertise of the POS system.
  • Purchasing, Receiving, and Inventory Management
    • Check in orders and input inventory into the system.
    • Support the annual inventory process, counting and recording all SKUs.
  • Marketing and Communications
    • Merchandise and display products.
    • Support the creation and implementation of marketing programs, sales, and promotions.
    • Create social media content, including taking photos and product education both in-store and in classrooms.
  • Other Functions
    • Maintain store cleanliness, appearance, and maintenance.
    • Stock shelves, perform returns and exchanges as needed.
    • Maintain computer literacy with Adobe CC, Microsoft Office, and POS systems.
    • Support the operations division and auxiliary services mission and programs (e.g., MFA Parking passes).

Requirements

  • Completion of a High School Diploma/Associate’s degree or higher.
  • 3-5 years of retail or customer service experience.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Arts or knowledge of art supply products.

Schedule

This position may require occasional support for nights and weekends depending on the university schedule and events (e.g., start of the semester, annual inventory, commencement). Flexible work arrangements can be amended or terminated by a manager with reasonable notice if work requirements or business needs change. This role involves responsibilities performed in an on-site working environment.

Pay

Pay range: Minimum $27.85, Midpoint $33.15, Maximum $38.50. Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
