SME-Weld Lead

About the role

Subject Matter Expert (SME) Contract working onsite at South Texas Project in Wadsworth, Texas
Review and interpret piping codes, standards, and project specifications.
Provide technical guidance to field crews on pipe selection, layout, and installation methods.
Identify potential design or operational issues and recommend solutions.
Prepare and review engineering support documents for in-field construction.
Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with design and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• As a Welding Lead:
  • Understand piping system layouts, specifications, and technical drawings using CAD or 3D modeling.
  • Perform stress analysis and material selection for buried pipe systems.
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory and safety standards for water, sewer, and storm systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate piping into overall project plans.
• As a Buried Pipe Replacement Specialist:
  • Oversee the excavation, trenching, and backfilling for pipe replacement.
  • Supervise pipe laying, bedding, and joint sealing (welding, cementing, or mechanical joining).
  • Ensure proper alignment, slope, and soil cover by engineering specifications.
  • Assist in the removal and disposal of old pipe, and in reconditioning or recycling materials where applicable.
  • Inspect and test installed systems for leaks, structural integrity, and compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
• Weld Certifications
• 8 + years of experience as a Welding Lead and as a buried pipe specialist
• You will successfully pass fitness for duty including a pre-employment drug screen.
• Nuclear background clearance required.

Pay

The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85/hour to $125/hour.
