Small Business Unit Underwriter/Analyst

About the Role

The Small Business Unit Underwriter/Analyst will assign organizational assets within a defined authority level, evaluating, selecting, accepting, declining, pricing, and servicing workers' compensation accounts. This role leverages predictive analytics and robotic process automation to continuously assess the profitability of the assigned book of business and incorporate new process efficiencies. The Underwriter will also develop and maintain productive agency relationships.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates accounts to determine risk selection within authority level.
• Determines account pricing, terms, and conditions in accordance with industry regulations.
• Balances execution of processes while handling a high volume of transactions.
• Proactively incorporates predictive analytics to determine underwriting pricing.
• Assists with the ongoing incorporation of process automation tools.
• Selects risk appropriately based on the organization’s underwriting risk appetite.
• Documents justification for underwriting direction.
• Aims to achieve company written premium, loss ratio, submission, and service objectives.
• Provides timely and professional communication to customers.
• Appropriately utilizes support services to manage the assigned book of business.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a Business-related field.
• At least 2 years of Property and Casualty insurance underwriting experience.

Skills

• Knowledge of the insurance industry; workers' compensation experience preferred.
• Understanding of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, including negotiation and sales experience.
• Strong writing skills with the ability to clearly communicate underwriting decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to confidently accept appropriate risk.
• Significant attention to detail.
• Limited experience reviewing financial statements and ratios associated with risk analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• ARM, CIC, or AU designations preferred.
