About the role
A Small Business Banker II services a wide variety of business loans—including commercial and industrial loans, SBA, and commercial real estate—while collaborating with branches, credit, and product partners. This position focuses on developing meaningful relationships and cross-selling credit and noncredit products.
Responsibilities
- Develop new and expand existing small business relationships.
- Achieve 8–12% year-over-year net balance sheet growth annually, depending on market conditions and regional budget.
- Partner with Branch Managers, Treasury Management Advisors, Merchant Services, and Trust and Investment Advisors to promote additional business opportunities.
- Call on potential or existing customers (companies with revenues generally under $10 million) to develop and retain business.
- Engage in joint-calling activity with branch partners at a regular frequency.
- Promote cross-sell behaviors personally and within the assigned branch territory.
- Interview applicants to assess financial needs, repayment ability, and acceptable risk levels.
- Monitor current loans for compliance with terms.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and dedicate 25% of calls to prospecting new clients.
- Achieve and exceed assigned budget goals.
- Actively participate in community affairs.
- Encourage clients to maintain their personal banking at Northwest.
- Prepare and submit electronic loan applications to Credit.
- Make loan presentations and recommendations to Credit, team leaders, and senior line-of-business managers.
- Partner with credit to ensure timely completion of annual reviews and line-of-credit renewals.
- Ensure noncredit clients have appropriate treasury management, merchant services, and related commercial services.
- Maintain appropriate risk ratings based on client knowledge.
- Collect on delinquent accounts as required.
- Analyze financial statements and related credit material to assess risk continuously.
- Complete loan closings as required.
- Provide credit information and references for internal review.
- Ensure all credit files include current financial statements, agency reports, and other required documentation.
- Participate in continued sales and credit training.
- Complete all required compliance training in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with Northwest’s policies, procedures, and federal/state regulations.
- Navigate Microsoft Office, department-specific software, and other computer applications to maximize efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Marketing preferred).
- 5–6 years of Business Banking or Branch Management experience with an intensive business focus.
- Knowledge of cash management services, credit, SBA (Express, SBA 7a, and SBA 504), and noncredit services and products.
- Knowledge of merchant services.
