About the role

As a Small Business Banker, you will develop and manage client accounts for the Small Business Banking Division, ensuring these accounts meet established requirements and maximize profitability for the financial institution at minimum risk.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the bank in conducting active prospect and customer business development activities with small business clients (up to $5MM in revenue) to generate new deposit, loan, treasury, and other fee income while meeting clients' needs.
  • Manage relationships with small business banking clients through consistent outreach, nurturing, and growth.
  • Establish a strong referral network with real estate agents, brokers, CPAs, accountants, attorneys, and other Centers of Influence (COIs).
  • Develop professional relationships with other bank departments, business lines, and vendors to cross-sell and generate product recommendations that help clients meet their goals.
  • Collaborate with other lines of business to ensure clients' specific needs are met.
  • Provide quality customer service through problem resolution and consistent communication via onsite visits and outbound calls.
  • Develop and maintain intimate knowledge of bank policies and guidelines for the business line.
  • Refer lending opportunities to Business Banking, Middle Market, treasury management, Highland Capital, FiServ, ADP, residential mortgage, and deposit partners.
  • Participate in civic and community activities to promote the bank’s products and services, maintain professional networks, and strengthen community ties.
  • Serve on CRA Boards or committees to help strengthen communities and meet the bank’s CRA objectives.
  • Interview loan applicants, complete applications, and gather required documentation to fully understand the customer’s financial picture.
  • Educate borrowers on the business line process, structure, and set expectations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of related bank lending sales experience or a combination of sales/credit analysis experience.
  • Strong Book of Business and COIs to drive immediate productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance with a minimum of 3 years of bank lending sales experience and at least 1 year of credit analysis experience.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills for handling multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Intermediate PC skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and referral tracking programs like Salesforce.
