Small Air Terminal

Duvall Decker was commissioned by the Mississippi Air National Guard, 172d Airlift Wing, at the Jackson International Airport, Jackson, Mississippi to renovate an out-of-date existing 19,243-square-foot logistics building into a small air terminal for traveling military personnel. The Small Air Terminal (SAT), Base Supply Admin, and Deployment Processing Facility included the conversion of warehouse and storage spaces into new training rooms, administration areas, conference rooms, locker rooms, restrooms, offices, storage, passenger processing and holding, and cargo deployment areas. The work included a complete update of the utilities, and mechanical and electrical systems to achieve a high-performance energy-efficient structure. The existing building was fully evaluated to save, repair, and re-purpose all its assets in an effort to re-make the building. The design reconfigured existing spaces, corrected code issues, updated the building to meet ADA requirements, and added a new elevator, windows, and doors. The existing building is now an energy-efficient, environmentally mature structure with a new life of service to the Air Guard. The site planning and building structure upgrades were improved and hardened to meet the current antiterrorism and force protection requirements.
