Operate machinery to load and unload materials in a sales yard or stockpile area, ensuring safe and efficient movement of materials using loaders, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. Maintain and organize materials for easy accessibility and perform routine equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic loading and stockpile-building tasks under direct supervision.
  • Operate a front-end loader to load trucks, feed processing plants, and move materials within the stockpile area.
  • Maintain precise control of the loader, ensuring safe and efficient operation in high-traffic areas.
  • Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of the loader, reporting maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Load trucks accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper weight distribution and minimizing spillage.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on the loader, identifying and addressing issues.
  • Work collaboratively with plant operators, truck drivers, and team members to ensure efficient production and material flow.
  • Assist in training and mentoring less experienced operators.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete log sheets, work orders, and other documentation to maintain accurate materials records.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Maintain situational awareness in a dynamic work environment with truck traffic and mobile equipment.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Follow environmental regulations related to dust control, material handling, and stockpile management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-4 years of experience operating a front-end loader in a stockpile environment.
  • Proven experience operating a front-end loader with a high degree of skill and efficiency.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery safely in a high-traffic area.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for pre- and post-operation checks.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, sit for extended periods, and operate controls with precision.
  • Must maintain three points of contact when climbing ladders.

Skills

  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating large loaders, including understanding controls, gauges, and indicators. Ability to maneuver the loader accurately for tasks such as loading, dumping, and transporting materials. Skill in handling attachments and spatial awareness for safe operation in tight or congested areas.
  • Safety Awareness: Thorough understanding of safety protocols and regulations. Ability to identify hazards and take preventive actions. Diligent use of PPE and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Technical Expertise: Solid mechanical understanding of loaders, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify equipment malfunctions and report them.
  • Material Handling: Proficient in loading materials onto trucks and conveyors while maintaining load stability and distribution. Ability to estimate weights and volumes for optimal efficiency.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to assess loading challenges and adapt accordingly. Demonstrates decision-making in response to unexpected situations.
