About the Role
Under general supervision, provides comprehensive speech therapy and language development services to a specified population of residents. Screens and evaluates residents; develops and implements therapeutic speech and language development programs and services.
Responsibilities
- Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatments for residents with speech and language disorders, hearing disorders, and oral motor disorders.
- Performs evaluations with particular attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, and auditory skills.
- Maintains communication with the resident and others concerned regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
- Facilitates behavior management in residents and families as appropriate to the needs of the resident.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork and hospitality for residents.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Therapy.
- Current license in state of practice.
- Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization.
- Organized and detailed in work performance.
- Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
- Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
