About the role
Wieland is a global leader in copper and copper alloy manufacturing, processing, and distribution. The Slitter Operator will be responsible for setting up and operating slitter machines and continually monitoring materials and machine parameters to assure compliance with safety and customer specifications. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined. This role is located in Waterbury, CT, and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
- Follow PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and JSP (Job Safety Practice) documents.
- Read, understand, and follow all work instructions specific to the equipment.
- Detect and report faulty operations, improper material, and unusual conditions.
- Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Set up and operate slitter machines.
- Continually monitor material and machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications.
- Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check product.
- Check material for proper gauge, surface finish, or other properties and communicate with metrology lab to ensure product meets appropriate specifications.
- Move material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallet jacks.
- Direct the work of one or more operators to maximize machine uptime, quality, and productivity.
- Operate rewind equipment, core cutter, saws, etc.
- Perform light maintenance on machines, such as changing and cleaning work rolls, intermediate rolls, and bearings.
- Perform other similar or related duties or flex to other areas of the plant as required.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to maintain production records and logs.
- Employment record reflecting reliability.
- Above average attendance.
- 3-5 years' experience running coil slitters or other related machinery.
- Ability to perform industrial math, addition, and subtraction.
- Familiarity with the use of micrometers and calipers.
- Excellent decision-making skills and organizational ability.
- Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Pay
Hourly Pay Range: $29.30/hr - $30.30/hr
Schedule
1st Shift - 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Weekly pay schedule.
