Sleep Respiratory Therapist

About the role

The role involves providing patient education on sleep-related breathing disorders and PAP treatments, monitoring compliance, and verifying device settings. The therapist assists with intake, patient/family education, and supports sleep labs with procedures like PAP naps, desensitization MSLTs, and Actigraphy. As a discharge planner, they assess and manage home respiratory care, coordinate resources, and facilitate discharge planning, collaborating with the care team and community agencies. They serve as a resource and advocate for patients and families, ensuring smooth transitions and follow-up care.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient education on sleep-related breathing disorders and PAP treatments
• Maintain compliance with PAP treatments
• Verify device settings
• Assist with intake and patient/family education
• Support sleep labs with procedures such as PAP naps, desensitization MSLTs, and Actigraphy
• Assess and manage home respiratory care
• Coordinate resources to support discharge planning
• Facilitate discharge planning, collaborating with the care team and community agencies
• Serve as a resource and advocate for patients and families, ensuring smooth transitions and follow-up care

Qualifications

• An Associate’s Degree
• 2-3 years pediatric respiratory care experience
• RCP licensure
• BLS certification
• Strong communication skills

Preferred qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree
• 1 year sleep lab experience
• SDS or RPSGT certification
• Expertise in sleep-related breathing disorders
