About the Role
Supervise day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the long-term care facility. Ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services/Clinical Services Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing employees in alignment with the resident care plan and facility regulations.
- Implement and maintain an effective orientation program for new nursing staff.
- Determine and communicate staff work/resident assignments for each shift.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents according to physician orders.
- Inform staff of new admissions and greet new residents, escorting them to their rooms.
- Participate in the assessment and care planning process, documenting observations and communicating shift findings.
- Meet with residents and/or family members as needed, reporting problem areas to the Director of Nursing Services.
- Encourage resident and family participation in care plan development and review.
- Conduct daily rounds and report findings to ensure nursing services meet standards.
- Document all interventions and activities according to policy and regulations.
- Communicate with physicians, nursing leadership, and staff regarding resident status and shift activities.
- Make rounds with physicians and schedule visits as necessary.
- Prepare and administer medication as ordered by the physician.
- Report discrepancies in physician orders or drug/narcotic records to nursing leadership.
- Report medication, supply, and equipment needs to the Director of Nursing Services.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a valid Alabama Registered Nurse license.
- Three years of experience in a long-term care facility or nursing home preferred.
- CPR certification required within thirty days of employment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move about intermittently throughout the workday.
- Capability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Ability to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently during the workday.
- Must possess adequate vision and hearing (or use prosthetics) to meet position requirements.
- Ability to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds with proper body mechanics and assistance.
- Must be able to walk or stand for 75% of the day.
