Summary of Duties
- Supervise nursing activities in compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
- Implement and maintain an effective orientation program for new employees.
- Determine and inform staff of work/resident assignments for shifts.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents according to doctor's orders.
- Greet new admissions and escort them to rooms.
- Participate in the assessment and care planning process.
- Communicate with residents and families regarding care plans.
- Report problem areas to the Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services.
- Encourage residents and families to participate in care plan development.
- Make daily rounds and report findings to the Director of Nursing Services/Clinical Services Administrator.
- Document all interventions and activities according to policy and regulations.
- Communicate with physicians, Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services, and other employees.
- Schedule physician visits as necessary.
- Prepare and administer medication as ordered by the physician.
- Report discrepancies concerning physician's orders to the Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services.
- Inform the Director of Nursing Services/Clinical Services Administrator of all drug and narcotic discrepancies.
- Report medication, supply, and equipment needs to the Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services.
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama.
- Three (3) years experience in a long-term care facility or nursing home preferred.
- CPR certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move about intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
- Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
- Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
